26th May, 2024
Australian climber Allie Pepper following a triumphant climbing season in Nepal with successful ascents of Mount Makalu and Annapurna-I without supplemental oxygen has launched her ebook ‘So You Want To Climb Everest ?’ on Amazon.
The ebook; ‘So You want to climb Everest?’ is not your typical ‘how to’ guide. Author and Mountaineer Allie Pepper incorporates stories and examples from her decades of mountaineering and guiding experience to encourage readers to explore their own motivations and develop a mindset that will drive their success.
In her book, she writes about the principles and values that guide her on the mountain, where it is common to be faced with complex ethical choices. Would-be climbers are urged to consider not just the physical skills they need to reach the summit, but what they must learn to reduce risk to their guides and others on the mountain.
“The point of the ebook is to help educate people so that there are less casualties and rescue operations on the mountain.A lot of people who aren’t mountaineers want to climb Everest but don’t address their shortcomings and unpreparedness which becomes a problem. I hope the ebook can help people learn and answer their questions related to the things they need to do before and when climbing Everest and also includes quotes from experienced and renowned from her guide Mikel Sherpa and Kami Rita Sherpa which can be of further assist for people who want to climb the world’s highest peak,” Allie said.
She also explained that the book is an essential read for anyone who dreams of standing atop the world’s highest peak—and is committed to doing so in a way that respects the mountain, the Nepalese culture and the Sherpa who guide them.
“Climbing Everest is not easy without the Sherpas who fix the ropes to the summit through the treacherous icefall, establish base camps and provide hospitality for visitors in the regions. I hope this book highlights the dangerous work they do to ensure clients success and safety,” she added.
Currently recovering from her recent missions on Makalu and Annapurna at Pokhara, Allie will head for Kathmandu next before heading to Australia and then Pakistan to attempt K2, considered the world’s most dangerous mountain without supplemental oxygen.
Allie has embarked on a mission to create a new record by pursuing her dream of reaching the true summits of all 14 eight thousand metres peaks without the aid of supplementary oxygen, within a staggering two years. No stranger to mountaineering and adventure, she started climbing 8,000m mountains in 2007 when she summited Mt Cho Oyu, also without bottled oxygen. She is also the first Australian woman to summit Broad Peak (8,051m) on July 15, 2023, the 12th highest mountain in the world, without supplemental oxygen, and Mt Manaslu (8,163m) the eighth highest mountain in the world, without the use of supplemental oxygen on September 28, 2023.
Pepper will head to Pakistan next to climb Nanga Parbat and K2. In Autumn, she aims to climb Mt Shishapangma and Mt Cho Oyu followed by Gasherbrum-II, Gasherbrum-I, Dhaulagiri, Lhotse and Everest expeditions in 2025.
